The program will consist of keynote addresses, academic presentations, interactive workshops and talanoa informed by the following thematic areas:
Navigating our vaka in digital spacesβ¨: digital health, telehealth and social media
Niu waves - seasonal workers, wellbeing and safety
β¨Niu challenges for mental wellbeing of the Pasifika diaspora in Australia
β¨Culturally safe care and research with children and youthβ¨
Culturally informed service delivery and innovative models of care
Our speakers and attendees come from all backgrounds and across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand: clinical leaders, social media influencers, business people, grassroots community activists, high performers in the sporting and academic sphere and even our tertiary students, all keen to share, learn and collaborate in the advancement of Pasifika wellness in Australia.
The Friday program will be capped off with an exciting Gala Dinner to be hosted at the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Surferβs Paradise where we will celebrate the successes of the Pasifika community in Australia and our healthcare workers in true island style with a generous buffet and a Polynesian floorshow.
On the Saturday OPHA members will be invited to gather at lunchtime for the OPHA AGM where we will reflect on our projects from the last 12 months and elect new members onto our board to set a course for our waka in the forthcoming years.

OPHA is a registered charity in Australia, functioning as the peak body representing Pacific health professionals and advocating for the health and wellbeing of the Pacific Islander community in Australia. We have been leaders in efforts to address health disparities for the Pasifika community in Australia including spearheading vaccination efforts and community awareness across a variety of topics since 2021. Our work has cemented our role as service delivery partners for government health equity initiative as well as embedding trust as advocates and clinicians for the Pasifika community. We remain engaged with various government and regional bodies pertinent to Pacific healthcare collaboration including Queensland Health and the Pacific Paediatric Association. We will accept abstracts for presentations from any and all speakers. Previous presenters at the 2023 OPHA workshop included medical practitioners, researchers, tertiary students, community leaders. We welcome any and all participants interested in learning more about how to advance the health and wellbeing of the Pasifika community in Australia.
